Praise names of Ngcoya

The Africans have praisenames that are derived from the names, tendencies, myths and experiences of their forefathers. Ngcoya descendants' praise names (izibongo in Xhosa language) are:

Ngcoya!
Fingwa!
Bhala kaDududu!
Mhlamb'olal'intaka
Sibushwana!
Ntswayibana!
Thombel'entabeni
Nondaba!
Sileleze!
Madib'udonga luqhekeka!

It is important to correct the misconception by some people that Ngcai are Madiba or Dlomo. This absolutely incorrect. Madiba or Dlomo are from the Thembu line of origin and Ngcoya are from the Mpondo line of origin. Madiba in Ngcoya clan is lightly used like Thombela which is derived from 'Thombel'entabeni' as Madiba is derived from 'Madib'udonga luqhekeka'.

Ngcoya was the son of Bhala, the King of AmaMpondo. Amongst, Bhala's wives, MaGqubutshe, gave birth to a son and other wives said "Uyagcoya wena uzele indodana - happy are you who gave birth to a son". The son was then named Ngcoya. The huts of a man had names and belonged to the different wives. When the wives started their severed homestead, they would carry along the names of their huts. MaGqubutshe's hut was called eBhukadeni.

It is also important to note that Ngcoya is the descendant of Bhala, Gangatha, Cabe, Ncindise, Msiza, Mpondo, Njanya, Sibiside, Dlemini and so on.

One will notice that many Mpondo clans share the ancestors. For example, amaKhonjwayo amaNyawuza, amaKhwetshube, are the descendants of Bhala and all his forefathers above.

  6. so if Ngcoya was the son of King Bhala then in essence all the Ngcoyas are originally Bhalas because we're merely using our forefather's Name (Ngcoya) as our clan instead of Bhala... but this is confusing and endless because you'll find out that even "Bhala" was a name of one of our ancestors again, then it goes on and on till forever. was Ngcoya even the only son to King Bhala, if no, then where are the others?.

    1. Bhala begat Ngcoya uNondaba aah Madib'udonga I, Ngcetshu uKhathula and Heleni uNomeyisi from the Great eNdlunkulu house by MaGqubushe, Thahle uChithwayo from the Right iKunene house by unknown, Nyathi uNonkosi aahaah Dibandlela from the Left iqadi house. Ngcoya is the heir yinkulu kaBhala. To avoid disputes a twin was not crowned if so be moved like in the case of Sukude and Mpondomise twins of Mpondo uNyanya. Ngcoya's son, Fingwa uSbhushu would be crowned but Nyawuza uNdayeni kaThahle refused to let go off the throne andso Ngqungqushe. A battle between Ngqungqushe kaNyawuza and Madiba of Fingwa ensued but Ngqungqushe won.

    2. Adding on, Nyathi uNonkosi aaah Dibandlela from the Left iqadi house by MamBhele. Mbingwa uNgqungqushe aaah Dakhile, amongst his brothers was Thiyani... Ngcoya begat Fingwa uSbhushu from the main house and Ngcayi uThupana from the 2nd house. Ndancela oko bantabexhego. NguNyathi lo, wendlu kaMbuce kuNtabankulu.

  8. The answer to Kwanele's question is that Ngcoya was the elder son to Bhala and his twin brother were Chithwayo who is the ancestor of the Nyawuzas and Khonjwayo who is the ancestor of amakhiwa.

Sithini kengoku ngalenkcaciso inikwe ngu Wikipedia? let me paste it here as it is:

The Ngcoya people are part of the Pondo (Mpondo) people of the Eastern Cape in South Africa. The story about how the Ngcoya clan came about: There was a Mpondo king, Bhala, and he had many wives. One of his wives begot a son and they said to the wife that "Uyagcoya wena wena uzele indodana" which meant "Joy to you who begot a son". She then named her child Ngcoya, and then his children adapted the surname Ngcoya from uNgcoya, the child of iNkosi uBhala. Each clan had clan names known as izithakazelo, which were names obtained for very close association with certain clans and for doing certain things. The clan names of the Ngcoya people are:

    Faku
    Nyawuza
    Thahle Ndayeni
Laba abahlamba ngobende benyamazane abanye behlamba ngobenkomo
    Choboza mhlanga kuvela ilanga
    Laba abagqiba umgodi udilika
    Thupane
